High Lords and Ladies of the land are of even greater rank than "ordinary" nobility, such as Lords. Only a few lands have High Lords, typically those without royalty.

Some of the Seanchan Blood are given the title High Lord (or High Lady), typically a great honor for one with the personal favor of the Empress.
At present there are no known High Lords/Ladies of Seanchan who have retained their titles and their life:
- High Lady Suroth, stripped of her titles by Tuon[1]
- High Lord Turak, killed by Rand in single combat[2]

The High Lords of Tear serve as the governing body of Tear, or did prior to the Dragon Reborn's arrival. There is no certain number for them, but there have been as few as six and as many as twenty.[verify] Only these individuals truly knew what lay in the Heart of the Stone for so long. They used to reach decisions with some kind of consensus,[verify] although they seem to be more contemptuous of commoners then most rulers. Many have objected to Rand al'Thors changes to the laws of Tear, particularly those which gave them special privileges and rights.
At present, there are fifteen known High Lords (only nine of whom still live for certain):
