Aiel War

The Aiel War began in 976 NE after the Aiel learned that King Laman of Cairhien had cut down the chora tree Avendoraldera. Four clans invaded the western lands with the intent of killing Laman, but the nations of the western lands united to combat the Aiel, but did not succeed in defeating them. Laman was finally killed in the Battle of the Shining Walls at Dragonmount late in 978 NE. Upon his death, the Aiel returned to the Waste. Though it was called the Aiel War by those living in the Westlands, the Aiel simply called it revenge.
